NBC's "Heroes" Films at ADPi!

Hello Lovely Ladies!!!

Greetings from Pi Palace!! As some of you may know, "Heroes" came and shot part of an episode at ADPi!! I know, I know totally amazing, right!?! I'm not going to lie, it did not occur to me to share all this on the blog. But Jenna said I should "totes" write a blog....so here we are!! I promised the wonderful people of "Heroes" that I would not talk about the script or plot points....and since I don't really feel like being sued I've decided to comply!!

I don't even know where to start!! They only shot one day...but boy was it long!! The trucks started pulling in at 5am...at 7 am I opened the house....and at midnight the trucks left! We got so many compliments on the house – and on your composites as well!! The DP and his team commented on how lovely you are and how you all have perfect teeth….so yay ADPi and good dental hygiene?!?

Originally they scouted four of the sororities at USC for the episode. After walking into Alpha Delta Pi, the scout was done. We were PERFECT! We have the best first floor and stairs of all the houses! Seriously, they didn’t even bring in that much in terms of decoration. Most of it was in the house and just rearranged! If we are fantastic enough for TV, you guys should be really pumped up about the house for recruitment!!

So what else can I tell you….there were sooo many people here and so much movement, it was like having you all back! It was just like convo days as I was running around the house checking all the AC’s to make sure they were within 3 degrees of the room temp! With that and my eagle eye for tape on the walls and scuffs on the floor, I’m sure they all thought I was crazy! At one point they asked to put a screw into the molding….I almost fell over. I don’t think I’ve ever said “No, no, no” so fast in my life! But you have to keep a close eye on film crews – one minute everything is great, and then next minute the DP decides that your room is going to be in the shot and so your door is removed. For real. One minute I had a door, the next minute it was gone! After some sweet talk and begging I got the grips to put it back on before they left for the night….

The particular scenes they shot at the house did not involve any of the men from the cast…or rest assured I would be bronzing furniture instead of having it cleaned! They shot in the composite room, music room, foyer, dining room, landing and stairs. There was supposed to be an exterior shot…but they ran out of time…..it’ll be crazy to see Pi Palace on TV in all its glory….especially since we have made drastic improvements since “Sorority Boys”!

I can’t wait for you guys to get back!!! We will definitely plan a viewing party for whenever our episode airs!!

Lots of Pi Love,

Maeghan aka The Best House Mom Ever and Bike Lady (that one was from the “Heroes” crew….)

Natasha's Bollywood Debut!

Hi ladies!

I'm writing to share some exciting news with everyone - my first role in a Hindi film! I traveled to San Francisco this summer to dance in a Bollywood movie called "Seeking Victory", due out in December. It was quite an experience to work with so many talented performers from around the world!

(Here's a photo of me with some of the other dancers on set)

Otherwise I've had a calm and lovely summer playing tennis (albeit badly), hanging out with friends and relaxing by the pool. I miss all my sisters and can't wait to see everyone back at school this month!!

Pi love,
Natasha

Pi love in Chi-Town!

Hey girlies!! Jenny Lee here. So this post is a little past due, but I wanted to share with you all the AMAZING weekend I had with Erika (Schnaps) when she visited me in Chicago last week.

Since it was Erika's first time in Chi-town and my family lives pretty much in the heart of the downtown area, we went around doing all the fun, touristy things first timers do--taking a million diamond pics along the way, naturally. (*I don't really remember how many random passersby we asked to take our picture, but I do, however, distinctly remember the questionable
looks on their face when we flashed our diamond signs over and over again. Oh well!*)

So the weather wasn't the best (*we were stuck in heavy downpours multiple times*) but we still managed to visit Navy Pier, go to Millennium Park/Grant Park, see the Buckingham fountain, and of course shop on Michigan Avenue, at which time we saw the zoo where I work a.k.a the American Girl store. On Saturday, my sister and I had a joint birthday party, where we both brought all of our friends together, picnicked in Millennium park and listened to a really great concert. We met so many new people, went to so many *interesting* events and created so any new memories/inside jokes in such a short period of time! Last weekend was hands down the most fun I'd had all summer and I cannot fully describe to you how ecstatic I was to have my best friend and sister come to visit. I hope you have all had and will continue to have great summers! I'll see you in only a few weeks!! Ahhhh!!

lots and lots of pi love,

Jenny

Hi from Jenna!

Hey girly girls!

This summer I've been interning at KIRO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Seattle. There are a TON of SC alums or people with other SC connections. One in particular? I showed up to my first day at work in June and met one of the reporters/sometimes anchor, Chris Legeros, our own Anna's father. I had completely missed the connection there. Apparently when someone has the same last name and lives in the same city, chances are they're related!
Anyways, it's been really great and hands on. I've been able to go out on stories and shoot standups (where you speak standing in front of the camera) and interview a whole bunch of people which is awesome. Best of all, when you have a camera following you all sorts of random people think they recognize you. Everyone from bums to firefighters to reporters from rival stations have said they "remember" me from TV...which I'm not on....yet.
Love and miss you all and I can't wait to see everyone so soon!
Pi <3,
Jenna

Janet Krupin in Footloose!

Greetings beloved ADPis!

This summer, I am keeping down the fort in Los Angeles! I am still walking backwards and giving tours as well as working at the front desk of Equinox gym on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. This gig is pretty sweet. Not only do I get a free gym membership to the Cadillac of all gyms, but all the celebs are members there!Seriously girls. Up close and personal celeb interaction on a daily basis. Some highlights >>>

Ashley Tisdale and I chatting about smoothies, and how her boyfriend likes the peach one. (The one I may or may not have seen on Perez that morning. Yup, kept that to myself!)Janice Dickenson calling me "sweet girl" and asking if I'd seen her cell phone. I had not.Bradley Cooper being just as swoon-worthy in person as he was in "The Hangover".Chris Noth (Mr. Big!) on a treadmill and smiling at me when I walked past because I fixed a problem on his account. (I heard, "Carrie, you're the one," play in my head. Aww!)And Matthew Perry, Fabio, and plenty of totally gorgeous athletes just to name a few!

But most of all and most exciting, I am "kicking off my Sunday shoes" in a professional production of the eighties musical "FOOTLOOSE"! I am playing Rusty and get to sing "Let's Hear It For The Boy" in the biggest venue I have performed as a lead in LA yet! This is really the next step up for me as an actress (and homegirl is getting paid!) The show runs weekends until August 29th and tickets are available at www.glendalecentretheatre.com! Fun Fact: Ren (the Kevin Bacon role) is being played by a guy who was Mark in the national tour and Broadway production of "RENT"! I saw him perform the summer after my freshman year of college and now we are co-stars (and more importantly, Facebook friends)! SO COOL!!
It always means so much to me knowing my friends support me in my endeavors. I would love to see my sisters in the audience. Plus, legwarmers and glitter eyeshadow? Who would wanna miss that?!

PI LOVE and bedazzled cowboy boots,
Janet

Diamond Family Vacation!

Hey sisters!

It was difficult to find time in our busy summer schedules, but we found a couple of days to take a last minute Diamond Family trip up to Big Bear Lake. We went out on Becky's boat, worked on our tans (Kait worked on her sunburn :-)), and went tubing! We miss you all!

Pi love,
Becky, Kiri, and Kaitlyn

Doll Camp Kisses!!!

Hey Girls!

I just finished working at a girl's summer camp called Doll Camp! Some of you might have heard me talk about it before (possibly during recruitment...), but this is my THIRTEENTH year at this camp! Every year there are about four week-long camps for girls ages 7-13. I went to this camp when I was younger, and I've been volunteering at it every since! There's a different theme every year (I've done everything from a Pioneer to a Mermaid to a Baby Doll and Sock Hop Girl), and this year our doll campers went to a State Fair! It's a tiring week full of creating the doll (stuffing the body, attaching the ligaments, choosing eye color, etc etc), sewing her clothes, and making her accessories. This year the girls not only learned to sew overalls, but I also helped them knit a rug, crochet a scarf, and bake pies and cakes for their dolls to bring to the fair! I've had a blast with my little campers, and their dolls and accessories turned out amazing, and I'm so proud of them! Although I am EXHAUSTED and ready to spend time talking about something other than dolls, sparkles, and the Jonas Brothers... I'm so glad I've continued to keep Doll Camp in my life! Not to mention I love creating my own doll! This year my State Fair doll, Maple-Ann, even is flashing our DIAMONDS PROUD on her hat! :)

Miss and love you guys so much!!

Tommy Awards!

On Monday June 29, we attended the first annual "Tommy Awards," honoring five USC alumni for their work on the East Coast. The event was sponsored by the USC Alumni Club of New York, and we even met some former USCers turned celebrities including Bryce Ryness (the star of Hair) and Steve Smith (the Giants' wide receiver! see picture).

We wish you all had been there to see James Snyder sing "So Much Better" from Legally Blonde!
Don't forget to check out Callie's story on the event! http://blogs.uscannenberg.org/neontommy/2009/07/tommy-awards-aim-to-strengthen.html

Hi from Lindsey!

Hey girls!

I miss y'all so much and I hope everyone is having a fabulous summer! I'm in Texas working at Camp Balcones Springs. There are 8 ADPi's here from different chapters, including girls from TCU, where GinnyMcdowell is the current president. I love being back at camp this summer, but there's no place like Pi Palace. See y'all in August!

Grand Convention

Hey sisters!

Rohini and I just got back yesterday from Alpha Delta Pi Grand Convention in Orlando! It was such an amazing experience for me to get to be there with all of the other presidents from every other ADPi chapter in the country (and Canada too!). We were only there for five days, but it seemed like a month- we had jam packed days filled with amazing rituals/ traditions, business meetings, workshops, skits and ADPi songs, meeting and bonding with sisters, and of course tons of fun and silliness :-) I also got to accept all of the awards that you wonderful ladies helped our chapter to win!

Overall Chapter Achievement Award (this is one of the big ones!)
Diamond 4 Point Award
Recruitment Excellence Award
New Member Programming Excellence Award
Scholarship Excellence Award
Panhellenic Excellence Award
Legacy Award
Finance Achievement Award

We can't wait to tell you more about it and teach you what we learned!

Pi love in Daytona!

Hi sisters!

I'm having a blast spending the summer in Daytona Beach, Florida! I'm here with Campus Crusade for Christ, a student organization on college campuses across the U.S. that sponsors summer mission trips around the world. One of my best friends here is a fellow ADPi from East Tennessee State University. She and I have been loving sharing ADPi stories and memories together...we even took a diamond picture! I love our sisterhood!!

Pi Love from sunny Florida,
Katie

NYC Happy Hour!

After a long day of work it was so much fun to relax and catch up
with a sister for happy hour! If any other ADPis are in/around the
city this summer let us know so we can plan a big ADPi reunion!!!

Hi from Erika!

Hey Girls!

So I went to Israel for 10 days this summer and I just got back on Friday and I had an AMAZING time! I went on a Birthright trip, which is basically a free 10-day trip to Israel that all Jews get to go on between the ages of 18-26. I went with USC Hillel but on my bus there were 10 students from USC, 10 students from College of Charleston, and 20 deaf students from various colleges on the east coast. I had quite a jam-packed trip. We traveled all over Israel! I got to ride a camel, I went rafting down the Jordan River, I floated in the Dead Sea, I stayed in a Bedouin tent in the middle of the desert, I woke up at 3:30 in the morning to hike Mt. Masada at
sunrise, I met 8 incredible Israeli soldiers (and I mean incredible ;) ), and did so much more. I learned so much about the deaf community and a lot of sign language, and I guess a little Hebrew too haha. Not only did I make some awesome new friends for life, I also met 2 sisters from College of Charleston who were ADPi's! We discovered in the airport before we left that we were all in ADPi and we had some great stories to share with each other. We took a picture together in the Mediterranean Sea (which I attached) and I also attached a picture of me riding a camel. I had such a wonderful time and I can't wait to go back! If you want to see more pictures from my trip just look at my Facebook.

Well, I hope you are all having fabulous summers and I can't wait to see you at recruitment!

Pi Love!

Erika :)

Flag Day

Every year my mom, a city councilwoman, buys a table at the Flag Day dinner, which is an Orange County political fundraiser held at the Irvine Hyatt. She loves having my ADPi sisters as guests and each year I invite a few to sit at our table and hear the different speakers. Here's a picture of me and Jenna Colgrove at the event.

Pi love,
Jasmine

Toga! Toga!

Hey girls!

For those of you who don't know, a bunch of ADPis are living in Sigma Chi for the summer... we couldn't stand the thought of being away from USC! While the living arrangements aren't quite as nice as our beloved Pi Palace, we've had a lot of fun hanging out with the guys and their amazing Chef Jose.

This past week Sigma Chi hosted a toga party. After work and class, all the ADPis met up and went downtown to the Fashion District to pick out some fun fabric. Togas are not easy to make, but with Lisa's extraordinary skills, we think we pulled it off.

Any ADPis in or around LA for the summer, come visit us!

Ni hao from your Executive Vice President!

Ni hao from Taipei!

For those of you who don't know, I am living in Taiwan this summer and working at the World Trade Center in business development (right next to the enormous Taipei 101)! I am having the time of my life. I received a grant through the USC Global Fellows Program, which I highly recommend applying for if you are interested in living and working abroad for a summer. It has been such a wonderful experience for me and I'm just getting started. If you have any questions about the program please let me know! Just last weekend I met up with our lovely sister (and recent graduate) Amy Su! She was visiting family in Taipei after graduation and it was awesome hanging out with her for a night on the town. If anyone happens to find themselves in the orient this summer let me know! I'll be in Hong Kong the last weekend in June and then traveling throughout mainland China from July 25th-August 6th.

PI LOVE,

Katherine H.

Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House This Summer!

Summertime and the living's easy! Though many of us have internships, classes, part-time jobs, and/or family commitments over the Summer, it is hard to deny that the Summer brings most of us some extra free time. Why not use this time to volunteer for a great cause?

The Ronald McDonald House has been Alpha Delta Pi's official philanthropy since 1979. Here is a quick refresher on just how amazing this charity is.
  • Ronald McDonald House provides low cost housing near hospitals for families of very sick children. Transportation, meals, and support are also provided. This makes it possible for families to be near their children throughout treatment, which can be a long and painful process.
  • One night at the House costs about $25 (according to their official website). For families who live too far from hospitals to commute and who are struggling with medical expenses, this can save an incredible amount of money when you consider the cost of hotels.
  • The average stay at a House is nine nights, but can be much longer.
  • No family is ever turned away for lack of funds.
  • Pop-can tab collection has raised $4 million - keep saving those pop can tabs, ladies!
  • The charity was started by Philadelphia Eagles player Fred Hill, whose daughter Kim had leukemia, in 1974. Philadelphia area McDonald's restaurants donated the proceeds from Shamrock Shake sales in order to fund the opening of the first House - hence the name Ronald McDonald House. Now, McDonald's covers most operating expenses of the Houses and some fundraising, and also provides grants to groups that directly improve the health of children.
  • Worth Magazine named Ronald McDonald House one of America's 100 Best Charities
  • Alpha Delta Pi has contributed over $2 million to Ronald McDonald House Charities!

It is exciting for Alpha Delta Pi to be tied to such a worthwhile charity. Right now, you can log on to http://rmhc.org/how-you-can-help/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities/ to find volunteer opportunities near you. If you can, spend some time this summer volunteering for this incredible organization!

For more information check out their official website: www.rmhc.org
